Busy day in CCG Govanhill Community FoodBank
The Wednesday morning started with a lot of work. The Crookston Community Group staff and the volunteer team worked hard to collect, transfer and supply crisis food for the needy people in Govanhill, Glasgow.
The CCG Govanhill Community FoodBank is lead by the Crookston Community Group. This is the third foodbank, which is operated by the charity in Glasgow. This is the busiest one. Unfortunately the poverty is significant in this area of the city. Today we had many local people and migrant, among families with children, who suffered from poverty. "It was shocking to see, how many children were waiting for food in CCG Govanhill Community FoodBank" - said one of our volunteers, Ester.
"In the last term, we have experienced a sharply increasing number of needy people in this foodbank. Week by week there are more people, who are waiting for opening of the foodbank doors on the Wednesdays. We suppose, the information about the food aid opportunity is spreading fast in this area. We expect that we will need a higher amount food and more volunteer in this foodbank in the next weeks and months." - said Nasreen, who is a chairperson of the Crookston Community Group.
