Nottingham food bank almost runs out of stock in ‘busiest ever’ period

One of the largest food banks in Nottingham has almost run out of food as a result of increased pressures on families during the summer holiday.

Families are having to rely on the food banks because children who would normally have free meals are out of school and so they are not receiving their main meal of the day.Trevor White, 61, from Sherwood said: "We had a family of eight come in last week. We gave the mum what we could but she wouldn’t leave because it just wasn’t enough."This is the busiest we have ever seen it. We can give up to 36 family packets per week but 50 or more families are coming to us every week right now."

Foodbanks across the UK are facing hard times during the school summer holidays and any help would greatly appreciated.
