Glasgow foodbanks invited to find out about Tesco surplus food scheme
Tesco’s Community Food Connection programme, with FareShare, recruits and supports charities and community groups, linking them to Tesco stores via an app that allows store teams to alert them to surplus unsold food items available at the end of each day.
recently Tesco held an event– at FareShare’s depot in South Street, Glasgow – groups heard success stories from groups who are already signed up.
Groups who were already part of the FSFC programme and CFC will spoke about their experiences and FareShare and Tesco representation provided information on the scheme.
Groups also got the chance to find out more about waste management and meet Tesco store managers, and there will be regular tours of the MoveOn depot.
Lee-Anne Wilkinson, Community Food Connection coach for convenience stores across Scotland and Northern Ireland, said: “We’re keen to develop our relationship with community groups across Glasgow and to make more charities aware that this service is available.
“It was a very informal event and groups heard a lot of very positive stories which demonstrated how much of an impact Community Food Connection is having on communities all over the city.”
