Clay Oven Pakora Time!

It comes as the team at Clay Oven Indian Street Kitchen doubles down on its commitment to support the local community.

For very portion of “charity chicken” sold in their newly-opened second venue on Kilmarnock Road, the family-operated business is donating 20 pieces of pakora to homeless units and food shelters across the city.

The special snack is on sale throughout the month of December.

Every time a portion is sold, the family will allocate the food to its Christmas initiative and will be sending drivers across the city, making drops right through until the New Year.

The venue’s sister eatery, located in nearby Giffnock, has been donating to foodbanks across Glasgow for the past three years.

Manager Shazad Mohammed took the step this winter after seeing families gathering to eat at their new restaurant.

He said: “It’s a great way of giving back to Glasgow.

“We’ve lived here all our lives and, while we’re lucky enough to enjoy some of life’s finer things, it’s safe to say there are, sadly, plenty of those out there that can’t.

“It’s highlighted at this time of year as we all come together to dine out with families and friends.

“It just really hit home that there are plenty across Glasgow who don’t have the pleasure of popping out for a curry or celebrating a special night out with a meal.

“The least we can do is share the love with some pakora this Christmas.”

The charity, which delivers fresh and dried food parcels to over 500 families every week, has been supporting households in the area since 2014.

Suzanne Mcglone, a sessional worker with the group, said: “Even in 2018, we’re allowing our neighbours to go to sleep hungry.

“With roughly one in every ten people living in deprived circumstances, we’re thrilled to be partnering with the Clay Oven and taking part in this generous initiative.”
