CCG Making A Difference
Today our good friends from FareShare and the Cabinet Secretary for communities Aileen Campbell Came to Visit.
This visit was to show how we work with FareShare to redistribute food back into the community
This is the food that we collect from FareShare this is fresh food that would've been thrown out,
but thanks to our work with FareShare we get to put this food to good use and give it to people who need it.
During the conversation with Aileen Campbell she spoke to our staff, volunteers and other organisation
After hearing everything we had to say Aileen had an announcement to make and that was that the Scottish government is giving FairShare another £500,000.
This is to help mitigate potential side effects of Brexit and the increase in food poverty.
Aileen Campbell
“In a country as prosperous as ours, everyone should have access to affordable, nutritious food. Our further investment in FareShare and community groups like Crookston ensures we reach more of the people who need help the most."
“This extra funding will further help those who have been badly hit by the UK Government’s cuts, which mean that welfare spending will be reduced in Scotland by £3.7 billion in 2020/21."
“We are also taking this step to insure ourselves against the economic damage of a possible exit from the EU. It is shocking that we have to do so, but the deal proposed by the UK Government would make people poorer and undo much of the great progress we have made as a nation to tackle inequalities and poverty."
Here at the Crookston Community Group it our mission to help people and working closely with FareShare we aim to help more and more people every day.
