God bless you all CCG family volunteers and staff🙌🙏

Little bit at a time

CCG Crookston community group started off from the back of our old ford galaxy in 2012. I picked up food from big supermarkets and distributed it in the Pollok area every day to families crippled by austerity measures and/or other economic problems leaving them with no choice but to borrow money. Yes there is some of our neighbours suffering from alcohol/drugs dependence nonetheless we treated everyone the same and always felt gratitude that we had a chance to help people.

Volunteers that started with us 8 years ago are still with us now

We took on our first premises 56 Beltrees road Pollok that May and started free coffee mornings and language classes alongside the foodbank but within a few months we were ready to hand the keys back because of running costs (rent, utilities etc) luckily for us local councillors stepped in and requested that our rent be reduced considerably and this was done by our landlords which meant that the fees coming in from classes covered our bills phew

As the foodbank services were now reaching around 50/60 families a week CCG was being noticed by representatives of Glasgow city council and they advised us and supported us to apply for grant funding. Yipppppeeee

We managed to buy some chairs and tables as we had absolutely nothing.

CCG has over the years facilitated very successful projects in partnership with the forestry commission, Glasgow City Council, Swamp Creative Media Centre , Pollok community centre, st-monica's school, leithland community centre, stv childrens appeal, arnold clark, bemis, CEMVO Scotland, BOS, clothworkers foundation, Corra Foundation, silverburn, Tesco, and so so many more

Four years ago we managed to secure the premises just 2 doors down at 48 Beltrees road Pollok which allowed CCG to expand services of the foodbank and foodshare. So, the concept of a foodbank has some embarrassment for people and CCG support is all about helping local people in a dignified manner giving everyone the respect they should receive SO we started “FOODSHARE” anyway there is CCG foodbank and there is CCG foodshare. Foodshare is food picked up from lots of places and redistributed/repurposed by distributing to local needy families.

In April 2020 the covid19 pandemic acted as a catalyst to further the despair of poor people refugees homeless disabled people in Pollok. CCG has not stopped and we will not stop helping and we are so grateful to our partners especially The Scottish Government enabling us to carry on our work elleviating poverty in our communities.

June 2020 CCG acquired premises in Ladymuir Cres Pollok and renovation work is continuing to continue this as a foodbank foodshare and charity shop, although the unit is on lockdown just until Covid-19 measures are relaxed. Our volunteers from our premises are in separate bubbles and are not allowed to volunteer in other centres. Face coverings and all preventative measures are compulsory and although we are key workers all staff committee volunteers are always on red alert

Oct 2020 CCG managed to secure premises within Bellahouston park which will enable us to support more people in Glasgow. And the journey continues so join us. You are welcome.

Thank you to our staff & volunteers it’s been a true community spirit 🙌 xx ‘#OneMillionMealsTilltheNationHeals’ is our mission to accomplish! @onemillionmeals
